Q: How close may insulation be to non-IC housings?
A: Three inches minimum from all sides.
Q: The light in a recessed housing goes out after a period and comes back on after some time (commonly known as cycling). How can this be stopped?
A: 1. Make sure the lamp or light source wattage does not exceed the maximum listed on the trim’s label.
2. Check to see if blown-in insulation is used. This can cause overheating and cycling.
Q: Can the blown-in or wet insulation be used with IC housings?
A: Yes, with IC-Airtight cans only. However, the max wattage must be reduced to 75%. Maximum wattage is tested with each trim and type of lamp with fiberglass insulation only. IC rated down lights are rater for both non-cellulose and loose packed, blown-in or batting-type dry cellulose insulation. IC rated downlights are not rated for dense packed, heavy density, rigid cellulose or spray in foam insulations of any type.
